Building QuranLake: An Open-Source Quran and Prayer Times App

Today, I am incredibly proud to announce the release of QuranLake, a mobile application dedicated entirely to providing a seamless experience for reading the Quran and tracking daily prayer times.

QuranLake is a comprehensive app that blends modern UX with traditional functionalities to serve users all around the world. Because mobile accessibility is paramount, I built and released this app cross-platform using Flutter—and it is now officially available for both iOS and Android.

Inspired by the Web

The core inspiration and much of the foundational dataset came from Mansouri Youssef’s widely respected web application, quranlake.com. I sought to take that stellar web experience and package it into a highly performant, accessible mobile product that feels localized and native in the palm of your hand.

Features at a Glance

A primary directive while designing QuranLake was clarity and ease of use. Key features of the application include:

  • Comprehensive Quranic Text: A comfortable layout optimized specifically for mobile displays.
  • Accurate Prayer Times: Reliable daily prayer calculations natively integrated into the app.
  • Cross-Platform: Because the goal is accessibility, choosing Flutter allowed me to ship high-performing builds to multiple ecosystems.
  • Beautiful UI: An immersive but clean interface that prioritizes its core purpose without distraction.

Fully Open Source

Another important aspect of QuranLake is transparency and community. I have elected to make this application entirely open-source. Anyone who wishes to audit the codebase, fork their own copy, or contribute improvements is encouraged to do so.

Building this has been a rewarding technical and personal journey, and I look forward to supporting it into the future.
